How can i remove a clear lacquer from a pine chest?
We bought a pine chest and it came with a clear lacquer on it. I'm curious if this can be removed as I would like to stain it a darker color? Thanks

- The hardware store will have paint stripping products specifically for removing lacquer. You can also try scrubbing it with steel wool dipped in denatured alchohol.
- You will need to strip the finish off, you will not be able to strip just the lacquer without removing some of the finish so the task is removing the lacquer and the finish to the extent you can. There will be some color left from the stain but if you going darker it will not matter. Chose a finish remover you will be comfortable using, there are several -some are eco friendly some are not. I would suggest reading the labels at your local store or ask their advice if you know them well. If you have worked with stains before then I need not go into detail on use.
