Chest of Drawers

i have excessive green/black mould on the drawers in the bedroom & on the back of the wardrobes.?

it is just on the bottom of drawers and back of wardrobes. it is also on the wooden photo frames on the window sill. the carpet is damp and clothes feel damp when taking out of cupboards and wardrobes. the bed clothes and curtains are not effected except to feel cold. it seems to affecting wood only. there are no signs of wallpaper coming away from walls and all exterior walls seem dry. it has recently been redecorated about 6 months ago. when touched the mould wipes off the wood. it seems to be coming from the bottom of teh furniture and rising upwards. eg the bottom drawers are affected first

  1. Rising damp?
  2. its called mildew. lack of ventilation or air flow caused by excessive moisture, its combatted by fresh air and some warmth.... wipe off with bleach solution or disinfectant - so that the spores get killed...
  3. Wot you mean excessive ha ha ha any mould is bad open your windows, let some air into dis room, move furniture about 4inches away from walls to let air in
  4. Your basement or crawl space may be where all the moisture is coming from. You may want to have it checked out and have it waterproofed so that the mold and mildew will stop growing. You should have the mold taken care of ASAP though by either hiring someone to come and do it or clean everything thoroughly with bleach as mold and mildew are very hazardous!! Make sure to wash your hands after touching anything with it on there!
  5. I don't think anyone can diagnose where the mold is comming from via yahoo answers. I would suggest wiping everything down with bleach water and then keep an eye on it for the next 30 days or so. If it returns start off by calling an hvac contractor that specializes in moldy systems. They can give you some really good starting direction by measuring the humidity and air conditions in your home.
  6. seems you have a leak from the foundation try getting a dehumidifier and spraying Lysol on the mildewed areas. Also, do not keep the AC down (place to cold) to low, that seems to accumulate mildew also. At least spray Lysol if you don't want to buy the dehumidifier!!!! Mold and Mildew can make you very sick!
  7. If I were you I'd get 'Rigsby' in to do a survey.
  8. open windows it is not damp its condition happens when you do not open windows air the room everyday.
  9. Insufficient oxygen, mould does'nt like it. Provide more ventilation , don't close the door in daytime, Crack-open the window to give a through flow.of air, I suspect that you don't have central heating, if you have a Superser heater bin it.. They produce 10% more water than their contents.
