- lol i have the same the problem!.. its so hard to let go of some things!.. but what i do is just organize things.. like put your shirts in one drawer stuff like that.. or say important papers put that in one drawer... and for your closet just clean it out regularly... or you can buy organizers for that too!...
- It's a huge undertaking but well worth it. You'll be happy with the results. Don't do both, start with either the drawers or the closet. Whichever you choose, take EVERYTHING out of it. Go through the items and seperate everything in 3 piles....keep, throw away, or donate. Next, go right to a trash can and throw that old junk out...don't wait, do it now. Next put the giveaway stuff into bags & put near your front door to take away. Don't let it sit there, get rid of it. Now, go through that KEEP pile and seperate again. Get rid of at least another portion of it and put it in the DONATE or TRASH category. Now neatly hang up everything or fold and put away. Categorize things....In the closet, hang all your shirts on one side, then pants, then skirts, then dresses. Keep them that way. In the dresser, have one drawer assigned to each item and keep things folded and in order EVERYTIME you put them away. It's hard, but once you get into a routine in becomes second nature. Also don't do organization projects like this only once. Do them like every 6 months or once a year and the task won't be so overwhelming.
- Yep! I have had the SAME exact problem. You need 3 boxes - or trash cans - or large garbage bags and a timer. Label the boxes - Donate, Trash, Elsewhere. Set your timer for 30 minutes and begin. Your going to start on the left side of your closet and go through each item until you get to the right side of your closet. . Step 1: Go through and throw anything that is trash in your closet. Shoes that are beyond usage, clothes that are torn or in really poor shape. Step 2: if you haven't worn it in 6 mo - or you just look at it and go 'eh' - get rid of it. DO NOT KEEP ANYTHING THAT DOES NOT MAKE YOU FEEL GOOD or SMILE! If your keeping it cause it cost a lot, or you 'think' you'll get back into that size (guilt!) but you don't wear it - bless someone else by getting rid of it. Step 3: Stuff that doesn't go in your closet - put it in your 3rd bin. When your timer goes off - stop what your doing, run around (quickly) and empty the box of stuff that goes elsewhere. As soon as a bag of trash or donate are full - take them out to your car and put them in your trunk. DO NOT KEEP THEM FOR GARAGE SALES - you want this stuff gone to stop cluttering up your house! New bag or box and start over. Take a break for 15 minutes (set your timer) and have a cold drink, fix yourself some tea. Put your feet up. When the timer goes off - do another 30 minutes, then a break again. The breaks are super important - it breaks up your work, and gives you a chance to relax. Once your done with the closet - do the same thing with the drawers.
- When my room gets really messy to where it seems overwhelming I gather everything that is not where its supposed to be and put it in one hug pile on my bed. Then just start grabbing things one by one out of the pile and put it where it belongs (i.e. garbage in garbage, dirty laundry in hamper) Before I start putting things away though I dust the furniture and vacuum. That way it forces you to do it if you want a place to sleep that nite. Lastly when the pile is clear I change the sheets and launder the dirty ones.
- Most important: save this task for a day when you are mad at someone or something. You won't be in the mood to be sentimental about things and this will free you to finally donate those clothes and other things you've been holding onto for so long. Also, with all that adreneline going you'll be amazed how fast the job gets done! After you've pared down to essentials get some clear storage boxes and other kinds of shelf and drawer organizers. Then, to keep yourself from getting back into the same old mess, go to flylady.net.
