Pine chest of drawers? I have had a pine chest of drawers for about 10 years if not longer and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it other than it's pine, the rest of my furniture is oak, so I was wondering if it was at all possible to buy a varnish or anything that will give me an oak finish. Any advice would be helpful thanks =) Thanks for your answers, the wood is quite knotty and I didn't even think about that but the piece of furniture sticks out in my room so even if I just got the colour to match the rest of my room I'd be happy. In reply to AdamR's answer I was wondering would it be similar if I just used an electric sander rather than buy all the different products he suggested?
Would you buy handmade knotty-pine furniture from a swap meet? I am a struggling furniture maker who is thinking about making some items from reclaimed pine (chest of drawers, occasional tables, curios, etc.). My prices would be low, say $250 for a corner china cabinet that was 28"W x 74"H x 18"D. Will I have success??
How can I fix varnish damage on pine furniture? I have a chest of pine drawers that have been coated in varnish. Unfortunately, it's had makeup bottles and a TV on top of it and there has been some considerable damage to the varnish layer (see link below for photo). Photo of damage: http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/1462/img0881q.jpg Unfortunately, these drawers aren't mine (I rent a house where they're included in the rent), and as I'm moving out in a few days I really need to find a way to either fix or minimise the damage- I know that rubbing a walnut on old vintage furniture works to darken chip and scuff marks, so is there some sort of method that can be used to fix up varnish damage? Could really use some quick advice on this one, cheers!
Basic power tools for building simple pine furniture? And what types of board for things like dresser drawers, bedside tables, wardrobe, coffee table, headboards? I have a an entire house to furnish but not nearly enough money to do it. I have worked wood a little ,though, and have enough to get a few essential tools and supplies.
Where can I obtain Pine Oil? I recently found out that my rat had little bugs on him and i let him roam my bed and pillows and drawers and i have become really itchy since then, im starting to suspect that the bugs rubbed off everywhere and i've been told that pine oil would take care of them. Does anyone know where i can get this cheap? thanks!
How to decorate furniture? I have a set of pine drawers and a bookshelf that I ruined when I tried to stain them myself years ago. I'd like to sand them back and beautify them with some sort of decorative paint job and new handles for the drawers. I love Bali style furniture, so something along those lines would be nice. Any ideas or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Looking for a Chest of Drawers from IKEA? Hi I want to find this style of drawers http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/00067830 in a pine-y colour. Can anyone help, I love the style but the colors don't match my room. Thanks!

what does ponderosa pine do to you? i mean like does it give you a high if you smoke it or eat it? does it make you hullicinate? the reason why im asking is because when i was looking for quaters in my brothers drawer to get water at the gas station. nd i found a little bag that someone wrote 'ponderosa pine' on and there looked like there was seeds in it. and it has to be something related to drugs right? cause it was at the WAY bottom of his drawer? i just want to know what it is and what it does.
are pine wood bunk beds a bad idea for kids? my mom and I are thinking of going in halves on a set of pine wood bunkbeds with underbed drawers. Here is a pic of item. http://cgi.ebay.com/TWIN-TWIN-PINE-BUNK-BED-2-DRAWERS_W0QQitemZ200180723547QQihZ010QQcategoryZ38188QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemCost with shipping/tax/shipping insurance would be $442. When we were out shopping around locally to avoid shipping, one furniture place said he would price match if I brought in online info, but when I mentioned one online was pine he laughed and said pine was junk he only sold oak. His was $573( even with free delivery).. I know oak is better, but the cost of pine ones are already a huge stretch of our budget to get my grandkids these beds....is pine going to not be safe? The salesman made it sound like pine would just fall apart. So I didn't know if it was his way to try and sell his, or if pine was really shabby product.
Can you stain pine wood darker? I just bought two sets of pine wood chest of drawers from someone. In the picture she sent, it had a dark, contemporary look so I bought it. But now I realised it is lighter than what I expected and I was wondering if there was a way to make the wood appear darker the cheap and easy way? (i.e. anyway I can avoid sanding the whole furniture??) Thank you! The picture she sent looked like this: http://img390.imageshack.us/img390/5899/2415870912126832751174blo0.jpg The actual wood colour (approximately): http://www.gallopandrivers.co.uk/Reclaimed_Pine_Pic_15.jpg
Can I paint, pine furniture? I want to paint bedside lockers and chest of drawers a dark brown. (They are all honey pine) . Is it possible to do this? I would really appreciate a solution please.
how do I remove "old wood" smell from furniture? Inherited a large 5 drawer chest from a woman who passed on. She was in her 90s, so I'm sure this dresser is older than me (I'm 31). Anyway, I wiped down all the drawers and even the inner frame with Pine-sol, then with Pledge Multi Surface Cleaner. After wood dried, there is still an old "musky" odor. I want to put my 6 month old's clothes in this drawer (it's in her nursery). How can I remove the smell, or what product can I use to mask the odor so it does not penetrate my baby's clothes?
How do you rid foul odors from wood? I recently moved and need to know how to clean away the root cause of the stench coming from the drawers built in the wall. I've tried Pine Sol and smelling soaps. Nothing seems to work.
How do you remove bad odor from furniture? I recieved a set of drawers and there has been a distinctive odor to them and i've tried fabric softener, murphys oil, febreeze, and pine sol. What else can make this odor go away? I used febreeze.
Where can I buy specialty plywood for making furniture? I've seen furnture with beautiful pine and cherry plywoods. I've also seen really thin plywood (3/8") for drawers. Where does one buy that stuff? Neither Home Depot or other local lumber yards carry that sort of thing. They only have lumber for building houses.
How dark does aged poplar get? I imagine that it does darken with age, but alot? I'm trying to find out what is hidden beneath layers of paint in a solid wood end table I found... the inside of the drawer feels harder than pine, but it's darker and not as green as poplar... smack me if this is a silly question, and if it's unanswerable smack me too.
can I refit a dresser so that the drawers don't fall out? I have a plain pine dresser in my kids' room...I am trying to find something to fix to the drawers so they don't pull all the way out...but I want my older child (age 4) to be able to open them so she can get her clothes out and dress herself. There are no tracks or guides on the drawers...I have seen the safety tabs to keep young kids from opening the drawers, but I am trying to find something so that they stop at the mostly-open point, like my own dresser drawers. Any ideas, can I retrofit, or should I just get a newer less cheap dresser for the kids' room? Thanks! The links are great--I think I've found what I need. Don't want to spend much as the dresser probably isn't worth more than $50 but I'd hate to waste something if I don't have to, especially for kids furniture!
I have a set of chester drawers...? They are really really really old, and they've been damaged so much...The drawers themselves are fine, but on top of them where I tend to put all sorts on, like my lamp, and TV etcthey have been burned and scratched and dinted and I was just wondering if there was any chance of being able to repaire them. I think they are pine. They are dry, and not varnished. I havnt got enough money to get them repaired by a proffesional, but I saw once, on "how clean is your house" a woman had the same problem and she sanded them down until the dints and scratches had all gone and then she got tea and wiped it on the chester drawers and it made them look good as new, but hers were a very dark brown wood colour, so i dont know if the same thing would work on mine? has anyone got any ideas on what I can do to repaire the wood myself. It doesnt necessarlity have to look good as new, but they just look awful at the moment...plz help!!! xx
I want to revamp my kitchen? I want to paint the doors and drawers. They are made of wood in a country pine style (could be light oak) I know they have a factory "finish", not exactly varnish or wax, but a definate something. They are quite detailed with panel inlays,so sanding could be awkward. Do I need to sand down etc or is there a paint that will go straight on ??
Please help quick cleaning wood ? How can i get the colour back into my Corina Mexican pine drawers i have wiped a marked of them and it has faded the wood please help

Is this a stupid intro for a Novel? Chapter One Rainy Season "Midnight." He moaned, sullen eyes fixed upon the twelve. It was still raining. The pitter-patter had never failed to soothe him before, but it was heaving down tonight. He watched as grape-sized droplets bombarded the Ivy outside, hugging the bedroom window for dear life. "Not quite mornin'... Not quite night. Oh, well I think that is what's implied by MID-NIGHT--" "Norman, you're talkin' to yourself." Stated a muffled voice from under the quilt. "Yeah, well." He said, sitting upright. "I can't sleep. Ha. There's a cliche." "Always with the cliches." Sighed the annoyed bulge, turning over impatiently. Norm glanced at her over his shoulder, smiling thoughtfully. She was always a sarcastic little thing. "I think I'm gonna make some warm milk. D'you want some hun?" "...Tabby?" He whispered, approaching her skeptically. "I'm up." She said, whipping the quilt off of herself in one swift move; bare breasts, now basking in the moonlight. "There's no way you're using those pans again, not after the 'Great Oatmeal Scare of 85'." She told Norm drolly. Norm looked back at her innocent figure and snorted. "For your information I was going to use the Microwave this time, but as you wish, my liege." They stood up in unison, stretching out the kinks and clicking out the clicks of their weathered anatomy. Tabitha went over to the smooth, pine drawers and took out an old Denver Broncos jersey. Norman watched her put it on; It was the one with the burn on the sleeve that he had come to love and hate. The hatred was for the identical mark it had emblazoned upon her otherwise perfect skin, and love for the fact he never smoked again because of it. That was the only time Norman Tanner had ever hurt his wife. Running her fingers through unkept hair, she drifted towards him. "C'mon then. Ya big baby." Norm grasped her hand like a needy child, and they descended the aching stairs. He knew what was coming. The first few steps were always silent, but always it came. "You should really talk to Hilary about your not sleeping Norm. You can't keep carryin' on like this, that much we both know--" "He wont listen Tab. The guy thinks I'm purposely deprivin' myself O' sleep, self induced." He let go of her hand and rubbed his eyes. "Now why would you be doin' that? You love your sleep...Just doesn't make any sense." She said, surveying Norm's face with caring wonder. They went down the remaining stairs in silence. Totally asinine right? I'm only 18, left school, have no qualifications, I really feel out of my comfort zone writing a full Novel, I just need some help, am I on the right track here? Thanks in advance anyway. @Mizzuck Spock, can you elaborate please? Do you mean the purposeful misspellings? Mizzuz...okay I get it. I thought I made it clear why I wanted people to read it, I left school and my vocabulary has only recently come into its own. It is the first thing I have ever written, I am worried it will seem amateur and inexperienced, because I'm 18. It's just a neurosis.
I need to identify a type of furniture wood - part 2? Thanks so much for all the great responses to my original question! (I need to identify a type of furniture wood - It's light wood with dark 'circles' throughout it?) The summary of responses is that it's either knotty pine, birds-eye maple, or pecan. I took a picture of it, here is a link to it, let me know if anyone has a better idea after viewing! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v422/jennieflynn/IMG_3099.jpg If it helps, my husband purchased the 4-piece bedroom set (2 nightstands, a 9-drawer dresser, and a large mirror, framed in the same wood, that sits on the dresser) for 1K, about 7 years ago. A side question would be figuring out how much to sell it for...I recently noticed that in a certain light, there appears to be scratch marks on top of the dresser! (Maybe ask for $200 for all of it??) Anyhow, thanks so much for all the help!
best smelling laundry detergent? i want the one that makes my ENTIRE house smell good, and makes the clothes smell good long after being washed (my drawers are brand new so they smell like ucky pine... i need a detergent where the smell will linger!)
Yard sale items prices...two entertainment centers to sell? one is pine entertainment center $500 orig. has top and bottom drawers (purchase over 10 years ago) good shape. the other is a wood entertaiment center that cost $200 from Lowes Hardware that we put together and it is just a couple of years old. great shape. what would you price these to start out with??? Thanks!!!! I was thinking as marking each of them as $100.00 which would allow room for someone to haggle a little on the price.

Dog peed on stainless steel oven - can't get it off!? I'm dog sitting for a coworker and his little poodle lifted his leg and peed on the drawer of my oven overnight. It's a brushed stainless steel finish. I've tried stainless steel cleaner, window cleaner, baking soda, a lemon, and pine-sol. What else can I try to erase his 'mark'? Any suggestions?
Which primer to use ~ oil base or water/latex base? I'm getting ready to paint a bathroom vanity. The vanity had previously been painted but I stripped it back down to wood (looks like it might be pine). I purchased new door and drawer fronts so all of the wood is bare/new. Which primer should I use ~ oil base or water (latex) base?
Can Danish Oil Finish be applied over an oil based stain? I am refinishing a chest of drawers. It is pine. This has turned in to a long labor of love. I stripped off the coats of crap. The layer include from the wood up-black stain-brown paint-some kind of clear lacquer. I wasn't able to remove all the black stain so I sanded and sanded. Some of the black remained but I stained over it with Minwax Wood Finish in Gunstock. The results look like my wood floors which are Tiger Wood. Heres a pic I found on google- http://picasaweb.google.com/barreled/TigerwoodAtOurHome#5228671704052927522 I don't want a hard sheen surface like lacquer, but I want it to be sealed. Will the danish oil work?
How should I theme my room? I have light blue walls in my bedroom, and a white wardrobe and a pine double bed, and a pine coloured chest of drawers. I also have a free standing long mirror on a wooden polished frame. I can't re-paint the walls, but I want to freshen the room up a bit along the lines of a theme. Like, when people have a moroccan theme, or a barbie theme (lol). So, what should I put on my walls, what sort of mirrors, drapes...? Any ideas?
Anyone have experience with Blum Tandem undermount drawer slides? I'm a home woodworker with what I would call intermediate level skills. I have here in front of me a set of Blum Tandem undermount drawer slides. #562H533-02B I'm drawing up plans for the drawer, which will be a full dovetail sort of thing, for a cabinet that's roughly 24 inches deep. The drawer will be roughly 23.5" (d) x 23.75" (w) x 4" (h). What would you tell me regarding how I should go about learning how to install the Blum Tandem drawer slides? Do I need the boring template, which costs about $50 and looks like it ought to cost about $5? What about the $35 tool set? It looks like I might learn more and come out ahead money wise if I cobble a drawer together out of cheap pine, attach the drawer slides and locking devices in the fastest way I can come up with....then go about making my own boring template out of hardwood .... then put the "real" drawer together using (expensive) maple & oak? Also, the 562H533 is for a drawer with side thickness = 5/8". The Blum literature says if you have 3/4" drawer sides you ought to buy the #563F533. What will go wrong if I make my sides 3/4" and use the 562H533? Thanks in advance, Bill
